Frequently Asked Questions
Why purchase one of our Hangi Cookers?
There is a niche market of businesses making Hangi cooking equipment globally, and we recognize that the other manufacturers are just as important as Hangi Gear Australia for affording indigenous cultures opportunities to engage with and practice their traditional food practices in modern and convenient ways.
Like our competitors we stock Hangi Cookers in varying sizes that suit a range of catering scales, from single whanau households to community and cultural group sized cookers suitable for fundraising. We think the beauty of our portable and conveniently sized cookers is the ability to use them twice in one day, for both savoury and sweet food preparations, or to use them to prepare steamed, smoked, fried or boiled kai, the options are endless and only limited by imagination.
Our Hangi Cookers take up very little storage space, are easy to set-up, use and clean, are constructed from 100% stainless steel making them durable and robust, the use of our cookers does not rely on ‘secret Hangi recipe’ gimmicks or special rocks, our prices are cost effective compared to other manufacturers and the cookers are suitable for use in any well ventilated outdoor area.
What is the best method for cooking Hangi?
Operating Instructions that detail how to set-up and use your Keg Cooker are provided with each one purchased. There are many ways to prepare a Hangi and our suggestion is that customers do not limit themselves to the methods described in our Operating instructions.
Rather, we recommend using our cooking methods as a starting point from which to experiment in order to perfect your own preferred way of preparing a Hangi meal.
For instance why not try an alternative to Manuka wood chips, which whilst is known for creating that unique and recognisable smell of Aotearoa, we’ve been just as happy with the results we’ve gotten from using River Red Gum, Mountain Ash and Apple wood smoking chips and sawdust which are all easily attainable here in Australia.
Where are your products made?
All of our products are manufactured in Australia from components originating from here or overseas, as is the case with our Keg Cookers and Hessian Covers which include materials sourced from overseas but are manufactured here in Australia.
Our stainless steel baskets and handles and cotton stockinette products are all manufactured in Melbourne. Whilst our wood chip and sawdust products are sourced from producers operating in Victoria and along the West Coast of New Zealand.

How much is delivery?
Delivery is calculated on a order by order basis which takes into consideration the weight, volume and destination of your order.
How will my order be packaged?
We commit to sending your order in 100% biodegradable and home compostable packaging. We have worked hard to source packaging materials that not only protect your items during transit but also do not harm the environment when disposed of and also doesn’t contribute to the ever growing problem of single use plastic waste pollution.
(On occasion Australia Post may use non compostable tapes, if for instance you order Express Shipping. We have no control over avoiding such occurrences of this type when plastic tapes are used).
